I took this photograph in one of those circumstances when you go to shoot something specific, but then find something else which gets your attention. This photograph was taken one the stairs to an old castle (maybe I'll post some photos with it later) - as we were returning from our visit, I noticed this snail shell on the ground.

There is something interesting about snail shells: usually they have a complex shape, with a level of geometry that would make a secondary school math teacher scratch his/her head nervously; they are designed to protect, yet they seem very fragile - at least to us.
